James Cook University Hospital Born in 1937 Alan GC Leighton was trained by The Pilkington Group as a Structural Insulation Engineer working in their Technical Department in London. He joined Machin and Kingsley as their Sales manager when he was 21 rising to National Sales Manager. He became an Associate Member of the Institute of Domestic Heating & Environment Engineers in 1968 and Member of the Institute of Marketing in 1971.
contactHe founded the Friends of the Holy Sepulchre Church in the City and was for a time an honorary Verger of Westminster Abbey. He became a Freeman of the City of London in 1968. In 1973 he became Sales Director of BMS Plastics (Southern) Ltd. During this time he became an ordinand and studied at the Southwark Ordination Course. He has a BD and Cert PS at Kings College London University. He obtained his DD in 1994. Alan was Ordained in 1976 into the Church of England. He was a curate in Hastings for 3 years and after three years as Vicar of Christ Church, Eston he became Rector of Eston with Normanby until September 2002 when he retired at 65. He then became a part time Chaplain for James Cook University Hospital for four years serving as Lead Chaplain for the last year. He is now retired.
assembliesBorn 1937, married in 1965 to Merle, and has two daughters Claire married to a Clinical Lecturer at Warwick University and a GP and Rachael married to a BP Engineer. Merle and Alan have five grand-daughters, the oldest of whom was born in 1991.
sermonsDuring the last 32 years as an Anglican Priest he has been a member of the General Council of the Evangelical Alliance, Chairman of Teesside Teen Challenge, Teesside Evangelical Alliance, and the Hope Foundation and S.A.C.R.E. Redcar. He has also served the community as Chair of Gillbrook Secondary Modern School. He was a regular speaker on local radio.

He still writes the daily Schools' Resource Sheet Assembly! He is a director of The King's Academy, Coulby Newham. He is Patron of the East Riding Independent Citizens' Advocacy.

Bible StudiesAfter 3 years of research, as part of his PhD, Alan was awarded the D.Letters from St Alcuin's House which is linked with the College of Christian Literature Wosley Hall. He completed a 77,000 word thesis on Spiritual Warfare and a smaller one on The Life and Times of Leon Morris. He received his doctorate from the College's Principal on the 11th of June 2006 in Los Angeles. This was followed by the awarding of his PhD on the 25th June 2007. His 100,000 word PhD on the subject of the theology of the New Testament in every day English was accepted by St Alcuin's College of Theology.
